Giesecke & Devrient GmbH, Munich (Germany)

Giesecke & Devrient (G&D) is an international technology company. After its founding in 1852, G&D initially specialized on printing bank notes, as well as the delivery of securities and machines for bank note processing. Today, G&D is also a technology leader in smart cards and system solutions for telecommunications, electronic payments, transportation, health, personal identification, customer retention, pay TV, and multimedia and Internet security.

The Gieseke & Devrient Group works with a single SAP system that supports 2,000 users. VMS analyzed the system’s operational cost structure and carried out a Benchmark against Best Practices. Gieseke & Devrient thereby obtained a comprehensive transparency picture of the costs, use, and quality of the system. VMS also made recommendations on a further reduction in operational costs. The VMS Report was also able to demonstrate, using figures, that the per capita method of cost allocation as practiced – and as used frequently in industry – did not correlate with actual use.

Customer Stories

"The measuring software installed by VMS allowed us to carry out the Benchmarking with minimal effort and without any disruptions to our daily work. The depth of detail and precision of the resulting analyses is impressive.

A calculation based on actual use would be a big improvement, because the individual cost centers use SAP resources very differently.”

Werner Glaser, Center Manager, IT Applications and Solutions, Gieseke & Devrient GmbH

"VMS' Benchmarking confirmed the high quality and cost efficiency of our SAP landscape. The analysis also confirmed our opinion that current cost allocation did not fully correspond with actual use."

Peter Clotten, Group CIO, Giesecke & Devrient GmbH
